Active Heroes ~ A hike to Support our Troops
Starting June 3rd, 2012, Matt Kerner is joining the Active Heroes team and will set out to hike across America from California to Washington D.C.. He wants to travel on foot to meet people who support our troops and prove there are many who care. He learned about the suicide rates for Veterans and decided he can do something to help. His idea is to meet people across America who support the troops and work together to help military families in need.
His mission is to hike up to 30 miles a day and conquer over 4400 miles aross the Nation on foot. You can join his team and fundraise to help Military families .

Welcome to my fundraising page benefiting Active Heroes. I am Matt Kerner. I was born in Weiser, a small farming town on the western border of Idaho. Shortly after, my family moved to Denver, Colorado. Camping and hiking were always my favorite things to do growing up. I remember how excited I would get when my Dad was loading up the R.V.. I loved to roam around in the forest finding new trails, fish in the mountain lakes and hang out by the camp fire.
What I didn’t realize when I was a kid was how much our veterans sacrifice to protect our great land. My brother, Justin Kerner, joined the military shortly after high school and went on to serve multiple combat tours in Iraq with the Marines. My brother, like many soldiers, had difficulty brushing off the stress of war when he returned home. He was eventually able to overcome it, but others continue to struggle. He lost friends to enemy attacks and who decided to take their own life. When I found out how many veterans were commiting suicide everyday I was shocked. I decided that I wanted to help. I believe that we are all indebted to our veterans. I believe that a veteran should never be homeless, or hopeless. I hope you agree and join in making sure our most selfless heroes are not forgotten or left behind.
