Every month we honor the Active Heroes who are stepping up big in their community to help support our cause of helping Military families, Veterans and active duty. Past fundraisers of the month have walked across America, hiked to mountain peaks or ran in races supporting Active Heroes. This month’s fundraiser of the month goes to Wendy Woodall. On January 7, Wendy completed a Half Marathon in Columbus, Georgia, to raise money for Active Heroes. A little chilly, a little rainy, but an overall good run on the Columbus River walk! Wendy was able to raise $625 and has now increased her goal to help even more.
We talked to Wendy about how she succeeded in raising funds and here’s what she had to say.
1.What inspired you to get involved with raising funds for Active Heroes?
I was born and raised an “Army Brat” and now I’ve been serving on active duty in the
Army Nurse Corps for thirteen years. I know military life is sometimes rough, and a
Soldier cannot perform at his or her very best if there are challenges at home. This is
just a small way that I can help out my fellow Soldiers.
2. What did you enjoy most about getting involved?
Knowing that I’m doing something for others is rewarding.
3. Did you find the fundraising pages easy to use?
Yes–it was so easy! And I like that I could make my own url, which makes it easy to
share my page.
4. What tricks did you learn to raise funds?
No tricks! I’ve just been asking friends and family to donate. They have wonderful,
5. Will you continue to raise funds and if so what will you do next?
Yes–I increased my goal to $1000 in honor of my Army Nurse friends who were
recently serving or are currently serving in Afghanistan. They do amazing things
everyday to save the lives of our Soldiers. I hope to reach my goal by the end of April–I
will run the Rock ’n’ Roll Nashville half marathon for them.
6. What could help you succeed in raising even more funds?
I think I need to come up with some creative ways to raise money. I’m new to
fundraising, so I’m open to suggestions!
7. If you could inspire others to join and fundraise to help military families what would
you tell them?
Military life is not easy–deployments, moving, long hours, training . . . it has its own
challenges. Then, when additional stressors arise, such as financial burdens or medical
issues, it can be too much for a family to handle. By donating or fundraising, one can
help ease some of the heartache for a military family. So please help out–any amount
will be so greatly appreciated!
