Every month we honor the Active Heroes who are stepping up big in their community to help support our cause of helping Military families, Veterans and active duty. Past fundraisers of the month have walked across America, hiked to mountain peaks or ran in races supporting Active Heroes. This month’s fundraiser of the month goes to Kerry Gorczynski. She has been getting active in the gorgoues, green Pacific Northwest, by exploring trails for the first time in her life. What perfect timing that she discovered that she could get involved with Active Heroes and fundraise to help Military families at the same time. Through the last month she has steadily been raising funds by getting her friends and family to sponsor her online page and raised a total of $1110.
We interviewed Kerry about how she succeeded in raising funds and here’s what she had to say.
1.What inspired you to get involved with raising funds for Active Heroes?
My husband recently came home from his third deployment. At his Reunion Formal, we took a moment of silence for those that did not come home. Parents of one of a soldier who died was there and when the MC mentioned they were there, the entire batallion gave them a standing ovation. It really hit me then that I am blessed that my husband came home safely, and knew that I wanted to do something for families who have to face the unthinkabale. I also like that Active Heroes helps military families facing adversity at home as well, like tornadoes, injuries, etc.
2. What did you enjoy most about getting involved?
My husband and I were really excited to start exploring the Pacific Northwest when he came home from deployment, so I was excited to have my hike in May as motivation to get out and enjoy the outdoors, and challenge myself to hike as far as I can!
3. Did you find the fundraising pages easy to use?
Yes, it was easy to set up my account and add pictures, etc.
4. What tricks did you learn to raise funds?
Honestly, I just put it out there what I was fundraising for. The majority of my fundraising came from my very generous family, friends, and employer.
5. Will you continue to raise funds and if so what will you do next?
I would like to raise more funds, but I’m not sure what is up next for me.
6. What could help you succeed in raising even more funds?
I would like to get more involved in person-to-person fundrasising – bake sales, raffles, etc.
7. If you could inspire others to join and fundraise to help military families what would you tell them?
I would share with them stories of what fundraising through Active Heroes has done for military families already and try to share with them the challenges military life put on families.
