Nonprofit organization is raising funds for North Carolina Military Families
Raleigh, NC. (September 15th, 2012) – Active Heroes, a non-profit organization that is committed to helping military families in need, is organizing a fundraiser on September 15th called the Stand At Attention Competition.
The event will consist of a military member from the Marines, Army, Air Force and Navy who will compete to see who can stand the longest at the Triangle Towne Center (mall) in Raleigh, NC. The event will be streamed live online at www.ActiveHeroes.org/stand and everyone can donate to their favorite branch at the mall or online by dropping a donation into the branch’s bucket. Online there are virtual buckets so that anyone can make a donation from around the world.
Participants will start at 10:00am and go until the last one’s standing or 8:00 pm, whichever comes first. If more than one branch is still standing at 8pm, the winner will be determined by which branch has the most donations calculated from both the live event at the mall and online donations. Last year’s event raised over $10,000 to help military families affected by the tornadoes near Fort Bragg. Army was the overall winner, barely beating out the Marines.
Active Heroes’ volunteer, Cathy Bordeaux is excited to help host the 2nd annual event. “In 2010 I learned about Active Heroes and their passion to help military families that need assistance.” Her son represented the Navy in last year’s competition and she dedicated more time this year to help host the event. “The more I am around these military men and women the more I hear their stories and realize how brave they are and how they deserve what we can give back! It is my humble honor to assist in any way that I can in giving back to these Heroes!”
The overall goal of the Stand At Attention Competition is to raise $15,000 to establish a partnership endowment between Active Heroes and the Triangle Community Foundation in Durham, NC to help North Carolina military families for years to come. The Triangle Community Foundation (TCF) is a nonprofit organization that manages funds established by individuals, businesses and families. From these funds, TCF gives grants to nonprofit organizations. www.trianglecf.org/
Founder of Active Heroes, Troy Yocum will be MC’ing the event live from the Triangle Towne Center mall. “I am excited to come back to Raleigh and host this amazing event again.” Yocum says. “Last years’s event was a great success and we hope to top the funds raised this year to help even more North Carolina military families! So many military families deserve help and these brave troops standing all day are sacrificing their weekend to help out. We all owe it to ourselves to watch live online and give what we can back to our military families who have sacrificed for our freedoms.”
