The 2012 Active Heroes Golf Tournament was a great success!
For the first annual Active Heroes Golf Tournament, Active Heroes partnered with TRAKAmerica to help a deserving wounded warrior who lost both legs to an IED. TrakAmerica supported the Active Heroes mission to strengthen military families, serve veterans and benefit active duty military by providing financial support and community reintegration. The funds raised by participants helped establish a mutual fund for Bradley Invanchan to continue support for years.
TrakAmerica employees donated hundreds of hours of their time to plan the golf event that was held at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort & Tiburon Golf Club in Naples, FL. In addition, more than 50 participants played a great round of golf and challenges including marshmallow long drive, hole-in-one and a 70 foot put challenge. In all, it was a fun filled and inspirational day!
“The relationship we have forged with Active Heroes far and away exceeded my expectations. From inception, the commitment to our event and more importantly the men and woman who have served and continue to serve our country was clearly evident. Truly a first class team who without which we could not of achieved our objectives.” said Vincent Iacono, CEO of TRAKAmerica.”Meeting Bradley and Sarah was truly inspirational. It served to remind me and the others who came out to support Bradley that the freedoms we enjoy each and every day do come at a sacrifice and without the proud men and women of our armed services those freedoms are constantly being challenged. Furthermore, Bradley’s perseverance and attitude despite what happened is a wonderful example for all those who have had traumatic life changing experience. It was our honor to host him and Sarah.”
Bradley Ivanchan is a 23 year old Marine from Glendale, AZ. On June 13th, 2012, Brad was injured and lost both legs from an explosion while serving our country in Afghanistan. He is currently on the west coast at Balboa Naval Hospital in San Diego, California, where with the love and support of wife Sarah and the rest of his family, he is working hard to recover from his injuries. Brad’s family has long been associated with the A.R.M. Industry which TRAKAmerica serves. Recognizing this relationship and the long road in front of Brad and his family, TRAKAmerica has been moved to organize this event in conjunction with Active Heroes.
Active Heroes, is a relatively new charity performing fund raising activities in support of all our service men and women with circumstances and families in need. Most notable is its Founding Board Member and President Troy Yocum’s, 18 month long Hike for Heroes campaign spanning 2010 and 2011, in which Troy (himself a retired serviceman) with his wife and support team, actually walked back and forth across America from Louisville, Kentucky through Chicago to LA; back through Texas, New Orleans and Florida, then north through Washington DC, Boston and NY and finally back through Cleveland Ohio and home again to Kentucky. With his efforts and the support of Major League Baseball, Troy walked to and visited all 28 major league baseball cities and stadiums during this long trek and raised $1.3 million dollars for their cause.
Ted Crawford, CFO of TRAKAmerica has devoted a large amount of volunteer hours to help the golf fundraiser come together. “The opportunity to hear both Bradley’s and Troy’s personal stories and experiences that brought us all together that day was extremely emotional and spellbinding. Watching as everyone in attendance was so emotionally engaged with their every word was one of the most amazing scenes I’ve ever witnessed.” said Crawford. “When the final tally was complete and we realized we exceeded our goal and able to give over $80,000 to the combined benefit of Bradley and the other Military Families in need, an inexplicable sensations of happiness, accomplishment and pure joy overcame all of us who put so much of ourselves into the effort. It was amazing… simply amazing!”
