The last 3 weeks have been amazing! Active Heroes has been supported by many who are pulling for a win in the Aprons in Action voting contest from Home Depot Foundation. Even great musicians are showing their support for our efforts to repair houses for veterans.
Hip Kitty, an explosive, four-piece rock band has now joined forces with Active Heroes in getting the word out to win the contest! The band was founded in 2002 and since then has made a name for themselves across the globe. Each member of Hip Kitty demonstrates a unique talent, look, and energy, and their chemistry as a band is undeniable. Their support for our troops is also undeniably evident. They have toured Afghanistan and Kuwait, and have even written a song in dedication to our men and women heroes.
“We are passionate about serving our veterans because all of us(band members) currently or in the past have had family members serve. We also have countless friends and fans in the service. Our appreciation for their sacrifice increases with every opportunity we have to perform on an Armed Forces Entertainment Tour.” said Hip Kitty’s lead singer Jen Halverson.
“Will You Save the Hero” is a song that Hip Kitty wrote in support of our veterans.
Unless you have served, you really cannot fully comprehend the immense physical and emotional adjustment for a returning soldier. “Will You Save the Hero” is meant to serve as a call to action for the American home front. George Washington said “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.”
Active Heroes recently sat down with Hip Kitty to talk about their support.
What was the tour in Afghanistan like?
Amazing, humbling, and we’d go back in an instant! We are so thankful for the opportunity to see and experience a bit of what our military does. Of course we love performing and sharing our music, but we all really enjoy getting to meet new friends and fans. It is an absolute thrill to be able to see those who we meet during military tours at shows back in the states after they return home. Some of our best fans are veterans and we are committed to showing them the respect they deserve when they come home. It was really interesting to see what coalitions of forces are in Afghanistan. We got to meet Danes, Bahrainis, Jordanians, British, etc. This truly is a global effort! A highlight for us is always getting to meet the military dogs! We’re huge animal lovers!!
What do you think about Active Heroes?
We think the service of Active Heroes is critical to our nation. We want to thank you for supporting our veterans!
Are you a veteran or have a family member who is a veteran?
Jen – My grandfather Maurice Halverson served in the medical unit in WWII. From what my dad has told me, my grandfather was the first medic on the scene after battles. He never relayed many war stories to my father or me and my sisters, but he remained extremely close with his friends who served. He was very active in his local VFW back home in MN.
Tell us your story or history and how you became a member of Hip Kitty.
HIP KITTY formed in 2002 and has been working toward world domination since that point! LOL! Seriously, we are committed to sharing our passion for music and performing with the rest of the world. The band formed in Nashville, TN and since then we’ve stayed touring as much as possible! We currently are working on our third studio album which we know are the best songs we have written to date! There’s nothing cooler than watching an audience sing along to something you created! Like any other career HIP KITTY continues to evolve and grow as reflected on our albums, but the goal is always the same: to reach as many people as possible! We love to travel, we love to write, and we love making new friends. Some highlights include performing with Alice Cooper, Uncle Kracker, REO Speedwagon, Hinder, and this past year playing DeLuna Fest opening for Joan Jett and the Foo Fighters! We have come far, but there is still much to accomplish on our HIP KITTY journey.
What else do you have going on?
We would like to share our Kickstarter link which we are using to help fund our next album. Like any other business, we need the support of fans and friends to get our message out so we can continue to tour and thus support our veterans and organizations like ACTIVE HEROES. We want to thank anyone who will pledge towards this next record! http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1046177434/hip-kitty-the-new-record
