The 2013 Memory Miles Challenge has been picking up steam, thanks to a great team that has just joined Active Heroes. Running for a Cause is not new to fundraising and they certainly know how to make people notice their mission by running with tons of weight and gas masks!
The Running for a Cause concept and idea was born after seeing firsthand what warriors and the families endure during their time of service. This inspired the team to do something; a call to action and help raise awareness for our troops and to honor their sacrifices. Founder Mac Alaniz would spent a year dedicating himself to doing something to help by running at events . He started training his body to take a beating at obstacle races and would go from 280lbs to 180 lbs. in a year. “I found that the mission was greater than one man and knew I wasn’t alone… I found an amazing community of vet owned businesses and groups that wanted to help. Runners who were inspired like I… to don the Mask and plate carrier to help with raising awareness and funds for amazing charities such as Active Heroes.” said Alaniz . “Active Heroes shares the ideals and the same mission as Running for a cause. The raising up of our wounded and giving them purpose. To help aid those that need our help and to give back to those who have given so much for us!”
But why run with a gas mask and weight?
Running for a cause does this to provoke the question of why. We do this for the Heroic Men and Valiant Woman of our Armed Services. The burden of the weight and struggle of breathing is indicative of the struggles on the road to healing these warriors will overcome & the burden of what these warriors endure as they stand fast on the front lines.
“Active Heroes is thrilled to welcome Running for a Cause into our family of actively engaged athletes.” said Troy Yocum, founder of Active Heroes. Just looking at the photos of this team inspire me to want to get out and don a gas mask myself.”
With several months left in the Memory Miles challenge, Running for a Cause has a chance to set new records with their fundraising for Active Heroes. Their Runners are nationwide and will have a representative at as many functions as they possibly can. They are even talking with the founders of Limit of Advance, a charity partnered event with Active Heroes and working to get our team there to represent.
