Active Heroes is teaming up with WHAS 11 news in Louisville, KY to repair 11 houses for veterans throughout June and July.
(June 14th, 2013 Louisville, KY) A team of volunteers and great companies are taking on the challenge of repairing one room in 11 houses for military families during the month of June and July in the Kentucky and Indiana areas. The partners include WHAS 11, The Home Depot, Ashley Furniture, Sams Club, Walmart, Active Heroes and Champion Windows who are all donating to help make these project a reality. Repairs on the first house began on June 12th, 2013 with the Florence family in Lagrange, KY where the family is receiving a room makeover for wounded veteran Bryan Florence who was injured in Iraq by an IED. “I can’t thank the sponsors and partners of this project enough,” said Bryan. “When we found out that we were chosen to get the makeover, my entire family was excited. Now I am going to see the progress that The Home Depot and Active Heroes have made.” We followed Bryan up the weaving staircase in his house and turned the corner into the room being repaired. After only a few hours of work the progress looked amazing and Bryan was overwhelmed when he first saw it. His wife grabbed him, hugged and kept saying that he deserved this so much. “Bryan wanted a room as a retreat to gather his thoughts,” said Emily Florence. “We decided to repair the house over time when we bought it and make his room the last one on the list. Now with the help of WHAS 11 and all the sponsors, we can give him a room of healing that he deserves.”
As a way to say thank you to military families, WHAS11 and sponsors decided to combine forces and took applications from military families with announcements on WHAS11 News. The plan grew to help provide 11 military families with one room makeover including $1100 worth of living room or bedroom furniture they need from Ashley Furniture and a grant from Active Heroes to pay for repairs. Other sponsors are making it possible to reward the military families with home furnishings that will help finish the rooms. “I hope that this makes and impact in their lives and lets them know that there are people that care about them and appreciate what they do and sacrifice for all of us,” said Jayme Perez from WHAS11.
Active Heroes is excited to join forces with these great companies to make this amazing work come together. “These families deserve a lot,” said Troy Yocum, founder of Active Heroes. “Helping these families is a great way to show how we can all step up to support our military community and Active Heroes is proud to use our grant to help purchase the necessary products to help with the remodels.”
