Louisville’s Active Heroes Win $250,000 Grand Prize in The Home Depot Foundation’s National Facebook Contest

(Louisville, Ky.) June 1, 2013 – Active Heroes has won the battle and a $250,000 check. Earlier this morning, the local veterans nonprofit was named grand prize winner of The Home Depot Foundation’s year-long Facebook voting program called Aprons in Action and will receive the $250,000 grand prize at a celebration event later today. As the March winner of Aprons in Action, Active Heroes competed against nine other finalists from May 1 – May 31 and finished with 107,042total votes, more than 60,000 votes ahead of the competition. Grand Rapids Home for Veterans and Stiggy’s Dogs in Howell, Mich. took home the $150,000 second place and $100,000 third place prizes, respectively.
Representatives from The Home Depot Foundation will honor Active Heroes today, June 1 at noon EST with a celebration event and check presentation at a local The Home Depot store located at 10301 Westport Rd., Louisville, KY 40241. President of Active Heroes, Troy Yocum, and representatives from The Home Depot Foundation will be available for comment.

We worked around the clock to gain support for our dream of building a retreat for veterans in need and thanks to The Home Depot Foundation, our dreams are coming true,” said president of Active Heroes Troy Yocum. “The number of votes and overall support we received from the Louisville community on Facebook was unprecedented and truly amazing.”
