On Thursday, June 4th, 2015, volunteers from Active Heroes and Camp Cuervo Archery Club, hoisted up the archery targets to complete the second activity at the Active Heroes Retreat. The six American Whitetail Targets were placed in the sports field area at the retreat under the direction of John D. Vasos, Mike Jennett and Lieutenant Colonel John Donchez from the Camp Cuervo Archery Club. The club purchased the wood and assembling the target stands in New Haven, Michigan before transporting them in pieces to the Active Heroes Retreat Center to be used in helping military families deal with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, suicide and depression.
“We are really excited to work with the guys at Camp Cuervo Archery Club who designed the perfect targets that can last any weather,” said founder of Active Heroes, Troy Yocum. “These targets will used by hundreds of veterans and military family members over the years and allow us to host fun competitions in the future. The Archery course has already made an impact in the first few days with the veterans being able to relieve some stress.”
The archery course will be available for usage during normal visitation hours; Thursday – Saturday from 10am eastern to 4pm until winter when the retreat closes.
“This is what it is all about. Putting aside all of your immediate distractions in life and concentrating on getting the arrow in the bulls eye,” said founder of Camp Cuervo Archery Club, John Vasos. “Archery brings enjoyment and Active Heroes is doing a great job. We look forward to supporting the retreat into the future.”
