For the second year in a row, volunteers from The Home Depot gathered at the Active Heroes Retreat Center in Shepherdsville, KY to assist in cleaning efforts. Over thirty Team Depot members cleared brush and debris, placed benches throughout the “pergola area” and placed picnic tables around the “Family Field” area. The team was led by Joe Autry who has become accustomed to working with Active Heroes with home repairs for veterans and now volunteering at the retreat center.
“Giving back to our Nation’s veterans is what The Home Depot is all about,” Said Team Depot Leader, Joe Autry. “Our core values as a company include stepping up to help military families and our community. The Active Heroes Retreat is a deserving project that will help thousands of veterans.”
The volunteers will return in in the next few weeks to finish building the first pergola at the retreat where families can relax. The project was previously halted due to the winter but now will be completed by the summer of 2015.
“We love working with The Home Depot,” said founder of Active Heroes, Troy Yocum. “We have been repairing homes for veterans for almost 4 years now with the local Team Depot volunteers. Now it’s amazing to get their assistance at the Active Heroes Retreat two years in a row.”
