This past Saturday, Active Heroes held its first “Red, White and Blue Pancake Breakfast,” at the Military Family Community Center. This is the first of many military and civilian fundraising events the Community Center will host this summer.
These fundraising events, Pancake Breakfast and BBQ and Fun, are open to anyone in an effort to help bring the community together and bridge the gap between the military and civilian worlds. Most activities conducted at the Active Heroes’ Military Family Community Center are exclusive to veterans, service members and their families. So, events like these provide a unique opportunity for civilians interact with the military family and veteran community.
“We had a great time at the pancake breakfast. My family got to go out and enjoy a good meal together,” shared Army veteran and regular volunteer, Kathy Hamilton. “My dad had never been to Active Heroes before. It was nice to be able to do something with him, and share an organization I believe in and have devoted so much time to. He is not a veteran, but he has always been supportive of the military. Because of the fellowship and camaraderie he witnessed, he can not wait to come back to support Active Heroes.”
The Pancake Breakfast and BBQ and Fun events are for all ages and all families.
“Who doesn’t love fresh hot pancakes from the griddle or a burger straight off the grill?” said Community Center manager, Amelia Woodrum. “I love that these events will bring people of all walks of life through the doors. It doesn’t matter if you’re 3 or 103, veteran or civilian; everyone can come together over food.”
