At the Community Center we continue to provide programs that will help veterans and their family members find a release from stress, anxiety, and just the hectic shuffle of everyday life. A great way for those to find the balance between stressors and the everyday life hustle is through Yoga. Yoga is much more than those poses. Derived from the Sankrit word “yuj” which means “to unite or integrate”; yoga is a 5000 year old Indian body of knowledge. Yoga is all about harmonizing the body with the mind and breath. Yoga can aid mental well- being and help reduce symptoms of stress and anxiety. This past Saturday we held a yoga class from 10am – 11am. There participants were able to work at their own pace while instructor guided them through each pose and stretch. We will be starting the next 6 week session September 10th – October 15th. Classes will be on Saturday from 10am- 11am. Another great outlet for veterans that happened this past week was our Wednesday program – ‘Wednesday Tango Foxtrot’; and much to what most think seeing the name it’s not dance lessons. Dan, who is a volunteer; medically retired from the Army is the lead of the talk group event on Wednesday. Here you can come and have unfiltered discussions about whatever may be on your mind. This is not just for the guys but encourage ladies to join too. It’s a great way to build camaraderie and if you are new to the area – make new friends. He is here on Wednesday from 12:00-1:00pm & 6:30-8:00pm.
As always the Community Center is open to veterans and their families throughout the week to come in and simply enjoy a stress free environment. We have board games, cards, video games, snacks, coffee, and areas where you can go to and relax to decompress from a day at work before heading home. We welcome you to check us out!
