It’s been a great week here at the Active Heroes Retreat. A lot is happening and progress is being made. The second cabin is progressing quickly and is under roof. It is really exciting to see that progressing so quickly. We also have a volunteer a van on Saturday, August 27. The group from Amazon and the local Church of Latter Day Saints came out and cleared the area along our current entrance road. We want to try and help visitors be able to see into the wooded retreat and the beauty that is the Active Heroes Retreat.
We also had a group of veterans and family members go to Canoe Kentucky for a Kayak and Canoe trip on Elkhorn Creek. Veteran Steve Hamilton had this to say about the trip ” I had so much fun spending the day with my two girls and they really enjoyed the trip too! We had so much fun canoeing that I even smiled. It was a beautiful day and the creek conditions were perfect.”
Veteran and Active Heroes Retreat Manager Ryan DeLong enjoyed some fishing while on the kayaking trip. “Canoe fishing is one way that I de-stress. It’s quiet, relaxing and so much fun.” A big thanks to Chris Howard at Canoe Kentucky for helping us organize the trip.

Please feel free to sign up to volunteer at the retreat. We always need a helping hand. We hope to see more volunteers out at the retreat as the weather cools. We not only need large groups but also volunteers that can come out weekly or bi-weekly to help out. We have multiple projects going on where we need help.
