Eli just celebrated his seventh birthday on March 10, 2017. Most boys his age would ask for nerf guns, sports gear, or maybe new toy cars; but instead, Eli was thinking about others and how he could give back to the community. At Eli’s birthday celebration, he and his friends from his basketball team raised over $200 for Active Heroes.
Just this past August, Eli and his family moved to Louisville from Chicago. Being new to the community his mother, Kristy wanted to get involved with local charities and came across Active Heroes. Since then, she has been intrigued with Active Heroes’ mission and trying to raise awareness as best she could.
“Each year for Eli’s birthday, and our other children as well, they get to choose a charity of choice. Eli chose Active Heroes this year and instead of toys we asked for some lieu of donations,” said Kristy. “The Timberwolves [basketball team] were more than willing to donate to such a great cause, and they were very passionate about it.”
Eli’s grandfather, and Kristy’s father is a Vietnam Veteran. They understand the importance of our veterans and the ultimate sacrifice they have all given while serving our country.
“It’s common these days for our children to go to school with kids whose parents are deployed,” said Kristy. “It’s something my generation didn’t experience so much, and I think it’s important we raise them to understand the importance of our active military members and veterans.”
Eli and his mother stopped by Active Heroes Headquarters last week to drop off their generous donation. If you would like to donate to Active Heroes, please click here. You can make a one-time donation, a monthly donation, or even dedicate your donation in memory of someone.
