For the third year in a row now, Derby City Whisker Club is putting on their annual Whiskermania to benefit Active Heroes!
This annual beard competition brought together a whopping 16 different categories of beards, who knew there could be so many?! Competition categories ranged from natural beard, separated by length but exceeding 12 inches, mustaches, chops, goatees, whalers, even two fake beard categories which open the competition up to women, fake fantastic and fake realistic.
People may not know, but bearding is a hobby all in it’s own. While there are categories for beginners, a lot of these men that compete have been growing their beards out for years, so this competition is not something they take lightly.
You may not have heard of a beard competition before, many people haven’t as this is definitely a niche event. This event alone brought in people from all different states who take their beards to any major competition they can get to.
“It was really crazy, I got the chance to speak with a lot of people in the crowd, and believe it or not, most people weren’t even from Louisville, and lots weren’t even from Kentucky!” said Jeremy Sneed, an Active Heroes representative.
Entry into the competition or even to get in the door was $15, along with ticket sales to a raffle for donated items, all came together to help raise money for Active Heroes to help further our mission of ending veteran suicide.
