The WOD to End Veteran Suicide is Back!
In 2015 Active Heroes created the WOD to End Veteran Suicide, an event unlike any other. Now here we are almost three years later in 2018 and the WOD is still going strong!
WOD is a term most often noticed as coined by CrossFit, meaning “workout of the day”, though this workout is held in gyms of all natures.
Since Active Heroes created the WOD to End Veteran Suicide in 2015, over 275 gyms and CrossFit boxes have taken part in this event on behalf of ending veteran suicide.
What does a workout have to do with helping end veteran suicide?
There’s multiple answers to this question. For starters, exercise has been a proven way to help relieve symptoms of mental issues such as depression, PTSD and anxiety.
The Mayo Clinic even posted an article backing statements that exercise eases symptoms of depression and anxiety. Some of the ways this is possible, exercise is proven to “release feel-good endorphins, take your mind of worries, help people gain confidence, encourage more social interaction, and offers a healthier way to cope”.
How can you get your gym/box involved?
Active Heroes has just begun getting together the gyms/boxes that plan to continue participating in this great event. A number of locations have already renewed their participation for 2018!
One team leader responded back immediately “So glad to hear this is back!!! Of course you can count us in,” from CrossFit Bentonville in Arkansas.
Any gym/box can get signed up at activeheroes.org/wod/.
Active Heroes this year has two choices of dates to host the WOD for gyms/boxes: May 5th and September 8th, although any gym/box can choose to host the WOD on a date of their choosing.
Sign up to be a part of this event for an incredible cause. The WOD to End Veteran Suicide is for any gym, box, or any group at all that wants to workout to help end veteran suicide!
