Our Ribbon Cutting-New Community Center!
Last week Active Heroes was proud to welcome long time supporter and Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer to lead the ribbon cutting at our new military family community center, in partnership with Louisville Athletic Club Jeffersontown. It was a great day to celebrate and look forward to the work Active Heroes will do in this location.
We are always talking with and surveying participants of events, what are military families looking for? What do they feel will be most helpful? We also keep up with the latest research on PTSD in veteran community and the impact on families. It was clear from all of this information, a great way to help and build support would be to create an avenue for families to be active(This is Active Heroes after all!), have a variety of resources available, and build a community. Our military family center here will do all of this and more.
First, we will host at least monthly events at Louisville Athletic Club JTown, with childcare, workouts, food, speakers…all free for military families! This will be a fantastic opportunity for participants to build that camaraderie that is so important in a support network for those struggling with PTSD.
Second, all military families members receive a significantly discounted rate to join the gym, simply use code activehero18. We all need to be healthier, right? Here’s a great place to do so!
Third, LAC JTown isn’t simply offering a discount and events. We are in the process of training the location staff to be certified mentors who will support veterans and their families struggling with the effects of PTSD. Staff will be able to support those who are battling the symptoms and also guide veterans to our resources and local supporters.
Finally, there will be a frequently updated resource wall within displaying discounts, services and other supporting organizations/businesses that military families can turn to. These local supporters are looking to help and build up military families so when participants are working out, they will see all the resources available to them and will show what benefits are available.
As you can see from the photos, we’re so excited to offer this location, in partnership with Louisville Athletic Club Jeffersontown, to our local military family community. We’re looking forward to building up this community, seeing what evolves from our events, and most importantly, helping those who are struggling from PTSD. If you’re in the area, stop by!
