Active Heroes, a 501c3 charity, and Sullivan University, in Louisville, KY, have joined forces to provide scholarship opportunities to one deserving veteran and one dependent in 2018. Each year Sullivan University awards two scholarships, one full-ride scholarship for an associate degree and one half-tuition waiver for a bachelor degree. The recipients of the scholarship are able to pursue higher education in high-demand fields such as business, law, healthcare, and technology-related fields. Additionally for 2018, the scholarship was also opened for nursing, other in-demand health care fields, HVAC training and advanced manufacturing training.
2018 will mark the fourth year that Sullivan University has been awarding the Active Heroes Scholarship, however this is the first year that a dependent of a military veteran was selected to win the scholarship. When speaking of the programs main focus, Jorge Pazmino says that the goal of the program is simple. “This scholarship opportunity aims to assist military families wishing to achieve or complete higher education.” Pazmino is an Iraq War Veteran and served on the Board of Directors for Active Heroes from 2013 to 2017. He is also the military admissions point of contact for Sullivan University.
