In Renton, Washington there lives a little girl, she is eight years old, and her name is Ellie Chang. Ellie is a gymnast, and Ellie is an advocate for veteran suicide awareness. Ellie started an online video of her pushup challenge for Active Heroes. This adorable little girl will amaze you with her heart for veterans. Ellie has an uncle that served in Iraq, another uncle that currently serves on a submarine in the Navy, Ellie’s grandfather on her dad’s side was in the Korean War, her grandfather on her mom’s side served in the US Army, and her great grandfather on her mom’s side flew P-47 Thunderbolts in WWII for the Army Airforce.

This beautiful young lady loves the color minty green, she loves gymnastics and any kind of art. Ellie started gymnastics when she was only 18 months old! She loves to draw and bake. She loves avocados, seafood, korean food, sweet tea and desserts. She loves Lauren Daigle’s music and one of her favorite songs is ” Burn the Ships” by King and Country. She also plays the piano!
You wil probably see her siblings in her videos, because Ellie knows how to share the limelight. Her brother Ethan is 7 years old and her brother Elisha is 2 years old. Ellie just completed third grade. Ellie loves that she can help to assist in veteran support. At first, she didn’t understand why veteran suicide exists and her mom and dad explained to her about PTSD. One of her uncles suffers from PTSD, although Ellie is not aware of this. We asked Ellie’s dad how he feels about Ellie’s contribution and he said, ” I am a proud father. I love that she is contributing to our country and to the lives of the people who have sacrificed so much”.
Why Active Heroes? Ellie’s gymnast friend introduced Ellie’s family to Active Heroes and our mission to end veteran suicide. After learning about what we do Ellie’s family states, ” We chose Active Heroes because we know that suicide is wide-spread, but not very mainstream in awareness. Active Hereos makes a difference and the results are visible. A program like this is much needed in a world where services to our veterans are very limited.”
Ellie, thank you so much for your contribution to our mission to end veteran suicide. You are making a difference in the lives of our heroes. We appreciate all the time, thought, and hard work you have put in to this mission.
