There’s a lot going on in the world today. It’s enough to make a person forget the good things, the people who really stand up for a cause and support those who need it. It’s not enough to stop this group of Combat Vets from hopping on their hogs and getting together to celebrate and support important causes they believe in!
Greg “Chewy” Rothschuh’s group Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association Chapter 12-2 gathered together for the third year to support Active Heroes. They had 120-130 motorcycles participate in the ride and about 100 patched CVMA members in attendance! They followed through the COVID-19 protocols and put the event together in only 2 weeks! This event not only supported Active Heroes with a donation of $3300.00, but also supported two different VFW Posts as well! These amazing guys and gals really worked hard and came through with this event, along with the event host Powder Keg Harley Davidson.
Chewy is a great help to Active Heroes and supports many veteran causes. He says that supporting Active Heroes,“We chose Active Heroes because they have a unique way of going about their mission. Most charities seem to try throwing money at the problems today’s veterans face. Active Heroes has a retreat center and several programs that are proactive. Plus,Troy has shown us first hand exactly where the money we are donating goes. I’ve never seen any other charity do that.”
He also mentioned that getting an event together during the pandemic was no easy task. “Planning an event during the pandemic was more frustrating than difficult. We were essentially waiting and seeing what was going to happen and what we would be able to do. We initially completely rescheduled the event for September. While we were contacting vendors and before we announced the new date, our CVMA national meeting got rescheduled for the same day we chose. We got lucky that restrictions were lifted before our original event date so we stuck with that. But that only left us with 2 weeks to put an event together. Typically we have a live band food beer games and a bike wash, but 2 weeks wasn’t nearly enough time to put all that together. So instead we extended the ride and included supporting 2 vfws in the process.”
However, it was worth it. Chewy says,“The most memorable part of the event was a small portion of the ride. I was in the back and could see the front of the ride going up a hill. I could see the whole ride and we were easily over a 1/2 mile long. Seeing that many bikes come out and support us and Active Heroes ment alot to me. Other than that I was really too busy with the event to really stop and take it all in”.
Thank you Chewy, Thank you Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association, and Thank you Powder Keg Harley Davidson.Thank you for your hard work, your resilience, and your passion for those who have served. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts here at Active Heroes!
