Active Heroes hosts a 22-pushup challenge, this challenge allows for veterans and non-veterans alike to participate in physical activity that also supports veterans and their families. One of our recent challengers comes from a company called Credit Suisse. Credit Suisse is located in Raleigh, North Carolina. Connor Todd is a software developer there and is a part of the Americas Veteran Network. The staff at Credit Suisse consists of consists of 41 people, plus Connor’s wife, daughter, and friend. These 45 people are making a huge difference for our heroes!
They decided to do the 22-pushup challenge because, “We are constantly looking for ways to volunteer and make a difference in the lives of veterans and their families in our community. Given the current environment, we thought a virtual push up challenge would be a great opportunity for our employees to challenge themselves physically, to raise awareness around veteran suicide and to build morale amongst their peers who may be feeling isolated and discouraged at this time”, said Connor.
We asked Connor why he chose Active Heroes and he stated, ” Active Heroes is a great organization that is here to help veterans out when they need it most. When looking for ways to build morale across the nation during the pandemic, I came across the website. Not only was I drawn to the 22 Pushup Challenge, but Active Heroes has events, resources, and opportunites for all veterans whatever their interests\passions, like golf tournaments, motorcycle rides, video gaming and Zumba classes. With their peer mentor program and their healing retreat, it was obvious Active Heroes is a great organization that exists to help veterans when they need it most”.
Connor is a veteran and the AVN is made up of both veterans, families, and those who are passionate about helping veterans. Connor says that the challenge helps him to be more physical , even when he has a crazy workday, and it has helped him to remind him to reach out to friends that he hasn’t spoken to in a while and make sure everything is going good in their life. The goal for the challenge for them is to raise money for Active Heroes so that more veterans are able to take advantage of the life saving resources and opportunities that are available to them. Also, to bring awareness to and with the hopes of reducing veteran suicide.
Connor talks about how the average rate of 20 veterans a day truly breaks his heart. He has friends that he fought beside in Afghanistan that have later taken their own life, it is the worst thing imaginable. He wants all veterans to know to please keep in touch with your buddies and make sure they aren’t going through a difficult time. If you are struggling know that you have someone to lean on.
Thank you Connor and those at Credit Suisse and the AVN that are participating in our 22 Pushup Challenge. Thank you for helping our heroes through your involvement and monetary contributions!
