On Christmas week of 2020, Active Heroes (a 501c3 charity) partnered with Academy Sports + Outdoors, University of Louisville Air Force ROTC, 1103rd MP Det, Arnold Air Society, Vista Partners of Baird and Meijers to gift over $5500 of toys and items to military children and families at Fort Knox and the Active Heroes Retreat Center.
“Even in a year of many changes, we have completed our mission to help military families throughout the year,” said Troy Yocum, Founder and President of Active Heroes. “These military children deserve an amazing holiday and Active Heroes is passionate about supporting the entire family.”
Volunteers spent a day shopping at the stores in groups to find all the items and package them all to be shipped to Fort Knox families. In past years before the COVID outbreak, Active Heroes would bring the gifts to the local military base directly to the children. This year changes were made so that the event could be made as safe as possible.
“The gifts that Active Heroes and the partners got for my soldiers and families were amazing,” said SSG Bearden with the US Army. “With all the hard work the unit has been involved with, this was a huge way of saying thank you for everything you have done this year.”
