The patient will lie comfortably on the massage table as the acupuncturist asks a few questions about the nature of the condition for which they are seeking treatment. During this time, the practitioner will also feel the pulse at the wrists and observe the tongue to form a complete diagnosis. The acupuncture points are then chosen based on this diagnosis, and very fine needles are placed in specific locations – usually along the arms and legs at a depth of about a centimeter or less. The process is generally painless; it is common to feel a heavy sensation or warmth as circulation in the area increases. The needles remain in the body for about 15-20 minutes as the patient relaxes. They are then removed and disposed of. While the treatment may focus on any medical complaint, from pain to insomnia to allergies, stress relief and emotional balance are always notable benefits from nearly even session regardless of the issue being addressed. The total Treatment time is 45-60 minutes.
