Our 145‑acre Active Heroes Retreat in Bullitt County, Kentucky provides asanctuary where veterans can find peace, purpose, and belonging throughyear‑round programs and events that foster resilience and camaraderie.

Operation R&R

Complimentary retreat stays for combat and disabled veterans

Take a restorative pause on the Retreat’s quiet trails and open spaces. Operation R&R is designed for rest and reset, unhurried time to reconnect with yourself or loved ones, with the option to join activities if you choose.

Vet +1 Dinners

Free community meals for veterans and one guest

Share a meal in good company. Bring a spouse, friend, or caregiver and enjoy a relaxed evening that encourages conversation, connection, and awareness of helpful resources.

Trager Family Foundation Disc Golf Course

A free, 19‑hole course open seven days a week

A low‑impact way to move, clear your head, and spend time with family and friends. New players and seasoned throwers are equally welcome.

Project Healing Waters

Biweekly fly‑fishing therapy sessions for veterans

Calm water, patient instruction, and a small group of peers make this a welcoming way to de‑stress and learn a new skill. Sessions focus on casting basics, fly selection, safety, and mindful time at the water’s edge.

Recurring Special Events

Community gatherings that honor service and build connection

These events bring veterans, families, and supporters together at the Retreat and in the community.

Service Dog Training

Hands‑on sessions that strengthen the bond between veterans and their service or support dogs.

Worship in the Woods

A faith‑based gathering held outdoors hosted by the Field of Grace Church.

Survival Training

Practical outdoor skills and safety education to build confidence and self‑reliance facilitated by the 62nd Citizen.

Birding

Guided nature walks that invite mindfulness, gentle movement, and connection to the outdoors.
